This is my custom pick guard video, where I show the process of making a pick guard from sheets of veneer. A shop made guard is an easy way to add a custom element to any guitar, and create a custom look. Pick guards can be made from any thin wood, but sheets of veneer are the best.
The custom pick guard video explains the process. Make sure to pick out nice looking piece of wood for the project and it will look great. Enjoy the video.
If videos are not your thing, I have an article that explains the process called How to Make a Pick Guard. It’s easy to follow along, and the piece you make will look great. Use Tru-Oil to finish the guard, which will give it a nice look. My article on Finishing With Tru-Oil explains how.
This video is from when I was making guitars only. It was posted to the Six Gun Guitars YouTube channel. From now on, all my work will be in one place. The videos will still remain on YouTube, but I will link to them here. That handsome guy in the videos…yeah, that’s still me. My site just has a different name now. WestfarthingWoodworks.com is the only place you need to go for all my woodworking tips, videos, and advice.
If you like my guitar making videos, check out my Fret Bending Jig Video. I show how to make a quick fret bending jig from scraps in the shop.
I hope you like the video, share a comment about a custom element of the guitar that you like to make. We can all benefit from your experience.
