I have recently been posting a lot to Instagram, and I really love the platform. At first I was not very active, in particular because I did not understand the community very well. Now that I have been able to see what other talented woodworkers are posting, I am thoroughly addicted.

Instagram for Woodworking Inspiration
Instagram is a great place to meet other woodworkers. It’s also a great place to see what people are making. Inspiration comes from many places, and Instagram is a great way to find your next fun woodworking project.
If you are interested in making something in particular, seek out others that are posting pictures on Instagram. When you find projects that you like, follow the person posting the pictures.
If you do this for a while, your feed will be loaded with great looking projects and inspiration for future builds. Sometimes all it takes is seeing the right picture and you have all you need to start that next project.
I’m also on Pinterest if you didn’t know that already.
Instagram also works for new projects. If you are thinking about making something that you have never made before, search for that too. Follow people who are making that project, and you will quickly see what is out there.

Once you have a steady stream of ideas coming in, boil them all down to the way you want to make the project. Take the best parts, and leave the parts you don’t like behind. Then, design and build your project.
Instagram is a huge influence, and a gigantic fountain of ideas. It also gives you up to the minute trends and design styles. You are seeing what people are making as they make it. In this way, you are seeing the cutting edge of the project style in many cases.
With all of those great reasons to be on Instagram as a woodworker, I will give you one more. I’m on there.
Look for Westfarthing Woodworks and you can follow me. I am posting lots of great pictures, and giving a nice summary to go along with them too.
I also have been processing many of my pictures through a program that lets me create High Dynamic Range photos. (Like the pictures on this post.) These enhance the look of the pictures, and make them look almost like they are part painting and part photograph.
I really like this look, and it makes woodworking even more amazing than it already is.
So, follow me on Instagram, and you can see great looking woodworking pictures and tips from me on a daily basis. It’s easy, free, and you are sure to find the inspiration you need for your next woodworking or wood finishing project.
If you have any questions on Follow Me on Instagram, please leave a comment and I will be glad to answer them. Also, please share my work with your friends online. It helps me reach more new woodworkers, and exposes more people to the joys of building things. Happy building.
