Coming from a woodworking background, with the normal tools that most people have in their woodworking shops, how much more will I need to buy in order to start making guitars? Do you need a lot of tools to make guitars?

Thankfully, you do not need a lot of tools to make guitars. Unless you are a complete beginner to woodworking, and you don’t even have basic woodworking tools, then you might need more.

There are only a few specialty tools for making guitars that you would not encounter in a normal woodworking shop.

These are a bridge pin reamer, fret saw, fret press, and side bender. However, the first two are not expensive, the third is optional, and the last one you can make yourself.

In reality, you can get all of the special tools you need by buying smart and making them yourself for about $100-$200 depending on what you want to get.

Team these few tools up with your normal woodworking tools and you are probably all set for guitar making. You might need a couple things here and there, but you will have the majority.

If you have been using tools as your reason for not making a guitar even though you want to, you need not worry any longer.

Use the tools you have, and get started. As you need a couple small things here and there, either build them yourself or buy them on Amazon to keep the price down.

Happy building.
