Is there a lot of places that you get guitar making wood from? Are there more places that you can shop than just the online suppliers?
There are a lot of great places to get wood for making guitars, but that’s not the entire story.
What exactly is guitar making wood? In reality, guitar making what is just wood being sold for a certain purpose. It’s no different than the same type of wood you could find in another store.
For this reason, it’s important not to fall for any marketing that claims one piece of wood is better than another because it supposed to be used to make a guitar.
By the same token, one piece of wood that’s identical to another piece shouldn’t be twice as expensive because it’s going to be made to a guitar.
When you looking for wood, if you have the tools to mill it you can just buy good pieces from a hardwood store. You can mill them to size yourself in your shop, and you’ll suddenly have guitar making wood.
If that’s not your style, or you don’t have the tools, just look for a Luthier supply shop and you can buy from them. Also, you can find independent wood sellers online and see what they have.
If you do a simple Google search and look for “guitar making wood” or “acoustic guitar wood” and other terms like that, you’ll find plenty of good places.
Make sure that you take a look at the track record of any place that you purchased from of course, and make sure that you’re getting a good deal from a reputable place.
After a while of buying expensive wood that is already been milled to the right sizes, you may want to consider buying the tools to do the same process yourself.
They’re not that expensive, and if you plan on making several instruments, you can really save a lot over time.
