Why LED Lights are so Awesome

I already touched on the way LED lights are awesome, but again until you experience it first hand, it’s hard to fully appreciate. Once you know how truly lit your shop can be, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.

LED shop lights are very small compared to the old fashion fluorescent lights, but they still have a similar shape and style. They attach to the ceiling, or you can hang them from chains, so the look is fairly similar.

The similarities end there though, because these lights last far longer, run much cooler, and consume a lot less power than their fluorescent counterparts. The light is also far brighter, and it’s a very welcomed distinction from fluorescent.

Another benefit is that LED lights are also for cheaper. For the price of one nice fixture in a fluorescent light, you can get a whole pack of LED light fixtures that provide far more light in consume far less power.

Lighting and Safety

The biggest thing woodworking shop lighting will do for you is it will help keep you safer. When you work in an environment that is dim, you don’t realize all the things that you miss.

Your brain is really good at processing information, and one of the things that it likes to do is make things look familiar for you. In a low light environment, your brain can fill in details that aren’t really there, and that leads to mistakes.

Think about it. Have you ever done anything during the day and then have the sun start to set and suddenly realize that the project is easier at this point? It’s not that the project is easier, it’s that the low light environment makes it difficult for you to see your mistakes.

This happened to me while painting a fence. During the day it was hard to get the paint into all the little cracks and crevices to have an even coat. Once the sun started to go down, I noticed that I was making a lot more progress.

In the morning however, once I had more light, I could see that I was really missing a ton of areas and I didn’t suddenly just get good at painting once the sun went down.
