Where to Buy Ring Making Supplies
So, you are getting into ring making, and you need some stuff. This is where finding a good supplier or a few good suppliers is very handy. Thankfully, there are a lot of different ways to find ring making supplies.
One of my favorites is your local woodworking store, but you can buy online as well. Some craft stores have a small wood selection, but they are good for other reasons that I will tell you about later.
You can also forage for supplies, which will be very fruitful especially if you are already a woodworker. In this case, you might already have everything you need.
Either way you go, having a good supplier for your tools and materials is very important. You can read about ring making online to see the tools and the materials that you need, and then you can use that information to find your supplies. Let’s take a little deeper look into the options…
Finding Supplies in a Local Woodworking Store
Ring making supplies can be found in many places, but my favorite is a store that you can walk into. Woodworking stores are full of great materials, and so are wood stores. The nice thing about one of these places is that you can talk to a real person, and touch the materials.

Being able to hold the materials in your hand, and try out the tools is huge. A retail store that you can walk into will give you that resource. They will also have a lot of materials that you may have never thought of using for your wooden rings.
Local stores also have people inside them. People that you can ask questions. Sometimes, just having a person that you can ask makes a big difference. It can save you a lot of time, frustration, and wasted wood.
Buying Ring Making Supplies Online
The world has been opened wide by the internet. You can find nearly anything you want, and have it sent from anywhere in the world right toy our doorstep. Ring making materials are no different, and you can find them in a lot of places.
There are a few online stores that feature smaller pieces of wood, and thinner pieces that require less milling to use in rings. You can order your pieces from one of these places without ever leaving the house.
I do recommend that you do a smaller test order first, until you are comfortable with ordering from the same place. Just in case the quality does not match the pictures on the site, you won’t be out too much money.
Ring Making Supplies in Craft Stores
Craft stores are not going to have a lot of wood for your rings. However, they will have something else that I alluded to earlier. These stores have alternative materials that you can incorporate into your ring designs.
Wooden rings do not have to be made completely from wood. In fact, some of the most interesting and beautiful wooden rings have wood as only one of the ingredients. It’s through combining materials that you can make better wooden rings.

Look around craft stores for metal sheets, flexible wire, burlap, plastics, and all kids of alternative ring making materials. These supplies will help you be more creative, and as a result make more interesting wooden rings.
Digging in the Scraps for Ring Making Materials
If you are already a woodworker, you might have everything you need already in the shop. A wooden ring is so small that you can make it from nearly any scrap. The drop from even the smallest of projects is typically big enough to make rings.
This is the whole reason I got into making wooden rings. I thought the concept looked easy, and I also had a ton of smaller exotic wood scraps. Being a wood hoarder, I knew that I needed a project for all of those smaller pieces.
Since I already had all my materials, and most of my supplies, I was able to get into ring making for a very low cost. Nearly nothing actually. I really only needed a ring mandrel so that I could size the rings correctly.
Where to Buy Ring Making Supplies – Wrap Up
There are a lot of great places that you can buy ring making supplies. If you look around this site in the ring making section, you will easily see the tools and the materials that are commonly used in making wooden rings. Form there, you can start searching for your supplier or suppliers. You can buy a ring making book too, and that will help.
If you have a local woodworking store, or hardwood store, this is your best bet. If not, you can buy online, or look in a craft store. Existing woodworkers have an easier time because their small scraps can be used to make wooden rings.
